What is NBHM Ph.D Scholarship 2018-19?
The NBHM Ph.D Scholarship 2018-19 is open for students interested in pursuing research for a Ph.D/integrated Ph.D degree in mathematics. Offered by the National Board of Higher Mathematics,this scholarship provides students a monthly stipend of up to INR 28,000 along with other financial benefits. Mathematically motivated students holding a Master's or a 4-year Bachelor's degree canbenefit from the research assistance provided for 4 years under this scholarship scheme.Who is offering this scholarship ?
This scholarship is offered by the National Board of Higher Mathematics, Department of Atomic Energy,Government of India.Who can apply for this scholarship ?
To be eligible for this scholarship, an applicant must be mathematically motivated to pursueresearch in the field of mathematics. An applicant must:
- Hold a good academic record since class 12.
- Be a Master's degree holder in mathematics (pure or applied) or statistics (M.A./M.Sc. or equivalent).
- Hold a 4-year B.S. (or equivalent) degree.
- Have secured admission to a recognized Ph.D programme on or before 1 August 2019.
What are the benefits ?
A scholarship amount of INR 25,000 per month for the first and second year.
A scholarship amount of INR 28,000 per month for the subsequent years.
A contingency grant of INR 32,000 per year.
House rent allowance (HRA) as per the norms of the central government (if applicable).
Note: The scholarships are normally for a period of 4 years, sanctioned for 1 year at a time and
renewable at the end of each year, subject to satisfactory progress.

Step 4: The completed applications then must be sent by Email or Speed Post to the respective zones.

What are the selection criteria ?
The recipients of the scholarship will be selected based on candidates' performance in the written test
to be held on 19 January 2019.
What are the important dates ?
- Applications open: 10 November 2018
- Application deadline: 7 December 2018
- Contact zonal coordinator in case hall ticket is not received: 4 January 2018
- Date of written test: 19 January 2019
Terms and Conditions
- If deemed fit, the scholarship can also be extended for a fifth year from the initial four years.
- Part-time research students are not eligible for the scholarship.
- The scholarships will be paid through the institutions the students are enrolled in.
- The written test will be of 150 minutes' duration.
- The applications should not be sent to the NBHM office.
